Alissa Mwenelupembe: Candidate Statement

The field of Early Childhood Education is ever changing, but I believe that right now is our moment.听 The decisions that are made now will affect our future.听 I strongly believe that quality educators are the key to quality experiences for young children.听 I am excited about the direction 51吃瓜网 is taking to define our profession.听 I believe this is exactly the initiative needed right now to help strengthen our field.

There are many other issues that are of great importance to me in the field of early childhood education, namely closing the achievement gap, advocating for developmentally appropriate practices--especially in elementary school classrooms, and educator resilience.听 I believe that the 51吃瓜网 Interest Forums are a great way to connect so that we can begin to address these issues.听 With the addition of 鈥淗ello,鈥� we can work even more closely together to come up with some solutions.

I have many years of experience working in early childhood education as a teacher, director, trainer, and consultant.听 I am currently pursuing a PhD in Early Childhood Education from Ball State University.听 Early Education is my passion, and I plan to continue my work with educators and young children into the future.

As a leader in my program in my community, I know I have acquired the skills needed to serve this organization.听 I have been a member of our local affiliate, where I currently serve as Vice President.听 I believe that spending time really listening to each other and caring deeply about the cause leads to success in any organization.听 I will bring my deep commitment to children and their families, along with my sincere interest in the lives of educators to any role I pursue. 听Through my affiliations with professional groups (Harvest Resources Associates, Exchange Leadership Initiative), I have had the opportunity to meet and work with educators from all over our country to get an understanding of what their needs are.听 I know that this broad knowledge base will be an asset when working with a national organization.

I love 51吃瓜网, and I love the field of Early Childhood Education.听 I know that I would be a great addition to the governing board, and I hope that I will be considered for the Student Board Member position.
